An Absolutely Stunning Development In The Silver Market

from KingWorldNews:

Today King World News is reporting on an absolutely stunning development, this time in the silver market. Acclaimed commodity trader Dan Norcini told KWN that in the silver market, “… the hedge fund outright short position is the largest position that I’ve got on my records going back to the beginning of 2007. We’re talking about a five and a half year period.”
Norcini also noted there would be a huge move in silver, “if they (hedge funds shorts) get caught on the wrong side of that market … because all of those shorts are going to head to the exits at the same time.”
The acclaimed trader also discussed hegde fund problems in the gold market, but first, Bill Haynes, President of CMI Gold & Silver, had this to say about QE: “Eric, it’s guaranteed, it’s just a question of when. Probably within a few weeks. Subastian Mallaby, a contributing editor to the Financial Times and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, in Wednesday’s Financial Times, chided Bernanke and the Fed for not showing some audacity, some aggressiveness in attacking the problem of an economy that will not get going.”

Gold Tier 1 = No Selling Pressure on Price Amid Market Collapse of the Future

from Silver Vigilante:
With the metals stealthily trending higher today, I thought it would be a good time to tackle some fears that the precious metals community has of a pending market collapse. The fear is that, like in 2008, as the banking crisis gripped the markets, the precious metals will collapse. In 2008-2009 gold fell from $1,100 to below $800. Silver fell from more than $20 to less than $10. Platinum fell from $2200 to $800. Palladium also fell from $600 to below $200. Granted, as I have said before, the paper dollar price is totally meaningless. (Break out of the inculcated paradigm!) There is no point in valuing something by a clearly, consistently devaluing measure, like all fiat currencies across the board. The powers that be are jumping ship! Buying water, buying food, buying up the stuff-and-things that have made up omnipresent nature. They do not want to deal with their mediums of control. They are for us to deal with and run the rat race for. The masters of the universe are above-and-beyond that paradigm, and that is wherein their power lies: their disbelief, our continued belief.

Slo Mo Bank Runs: Greek deposits outflow continued to be elevated in June

from Also Sprach Analyst:
Greece’s slow motion bank run since the euro crisis continues.
The ECB published June’s deposits data. Most peripheral countries record positive to stable deposits flow with the exception of Greece.
Greek deposits outflow remained elevated. Total deposit fell by €6.89 billion, with most of the outflow for the month coming from households deposits. Total deposits have fallen by 19.9% on a year-on-year basis based on Goldman Sachs’ calculation.
The chart from Goldman below shows the monthly flow of corporate and retail deposits.
Greek banks are also relying heavily on the emergency liquidity assistance (ELA), where Greek banks borrow from the National Bank of Greece (i.e. central bank of Greece) for emergency assistance as deposits continue to shrink. As Greek debts are no longer eligible as collateral in the Eurosystem (at least for the time being), Greek banks will have no choice but to rely on ELA heavily.

$10 Trillion M2 Is Now In The Rearview Mirror

Two weeks ago we observed that the broadest money aggregate tracked by the Fed, M2, was less than $10 billion away from crossing the historic $10 trillion mark. As of this week, this number now officially has 14 digits for the first time ever, or $10,035,100,000,000 to be precise (technically the non-seasonally adjusted number crossed $10T last week, but for some reason bank deposits need to be seasonally adjusted, so waiting for the traditionally fudged data seemed appropriate). And we have a $50 billion increase in savings deposits, aka deferred buying power to those who still have the capacity to save, in one week to thank for putting $10 trillion in the rearview mirror.

Austerity At The Olympics: Each "Gold" Medal Contains 1.34% Gold

As every Olympic athlete knows, size matters. The London 2012 medals are the largest ever in terms of both weight and diameter - almost double the medals from Beijing. However, just as equally well-known is that quality beats quantity and that is where the current global austerity, coin-clipping, devaluation-fest begins. The 2012 gold is 92.5 percent silver, 6.16 copper and... 1.34 percent gold, with IOC rules specifying that it must contain 550 grams of high-quality silver and a whopping 6 grams of gold. The resulting medallion is worth about $500. For the silver medal, the gold is replaced with more copper, for a $260 bill of materials. The bronze medal is 97 percent copper, 2.5 percent zinc and 0.5 percent tin. Valued at about $3, you might be able to trade one for a bag of chips in Olympic park if you skip the fish.

Snow White Dumps Prince Charming

Most people, most markets, operate on the basis of reality and probable scenarios based upon fact. This is not true for the equity markets however as it is here where hopes and prayers and visions of Tinkerbell and little blue fairies that will come to the rescue reside. It is in the stock markets where great dreams take place and where Batman guards Metropolis. It is also here, however, where eyes tightly closed are pried open from time-to-time and where the horrors of the known universe stare back at you with disquieting eyes. Draghi represents the Southern contingency, the periphery nations, the troubled cousins who cannot live on what they make. This is all fine and dandy but do not kid yourself; if the Germans say “Nein” then it is “Nein” and any other conclusion is foolhardy. Whoosh and sorry for the dose of reality.

'Micro' Equity Focus Is Shifting To 'Macro' Bond Reality

Fixed income markets have always focused closely on news about the US macro-economy; while traditionally, equity market participants have focused more on the “micro” data – in particular, news about current and prospective corporate earnings – to form their views about the relative attractiveness of different stocks or the market as a whole. Goldman finds that the financial crisis changed all that. The responsiveness of the US equity market to economic news increased dramatically, now showing about twice as much sensitivity to macro data as it did in the years before the financial crisis. While micro data remains important - especially in quantifying just how much QE-hope the market is 'abiding' by, macro news is likely to be the critical driver of equity markets until the global economic outlook is considerably brighter than it looks today (or macro decouples from Fed/ECB jawboning). On average the market’s responsiveness to all these economic indicators suggests that we are still very much living in a macro world. In the meantime, there are some exceptions to the fairly consistent reactions to economic news that we see between equity and bond markets.

The 'Recession-Proof' Olympic Dream

With the 2012 London Olympics now underway, ConvergEx's Nic Colas takes a look at the business of the Games.  As it turns out, the five-circle logo of the International Olympic Committee is essentially one of the strongest brands on the planet. The reason for this success seems to boil down to two fundamental drivers. In the developed economies of the world, the games represent an opportunity to reach a large audience that has grown fragmented and hard to reach due to everything from the social media to DVR devices.  In emerging markets, ever-larger middle classes represent excellent growth opportunities for global brands.  The bottom line is that the Olympics may prove to be the last piece of media content that remains relevant and interesting to the majority of the world’s consumers. The Olympics is therefore an unequivocal business success story, unharmed by global recession, sovereign debt woes, and the other economic problems of the moment. It just seems a shame that live-pigeon shooting and one-armed-weightlifting have been removed from the events and did dwarf-tossing ever make it?

Futures regulators chastised in House hearing By Michael McFarlin
July 25, 2012

Members of the House Agriculture Committee had the opportunity to grill members of the futures industry regulatory regime today in a hearing that focused on recent scandals. Unlike a recent hearing in the Senate, the House hearing was much more charged emotionally.
Split in two panels, members of the Committee first questioned Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Gary Gensler on topics ranging from Dodd-Frank implementation, to the action taken against Barclays for manipulation of the London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor), to the recent PFGBest fraud and bankruptcy. His written testimony is linked below.
Of particular interest to Congressmen was the subject of the futures industry’s self-regulatory model. Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) at one point asked Gensler, “Is the NFA up to the task [of regulating], or would the public be better served by a single regulator?”
Throughout his testimony, Gensler defended the model as being a hallmark of the futures industry, but conceded some changes may be needed. Additionally, when Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) asked about implementing an insurance fund for futures customers, Gensler answered that it is a matter of cost vs. benefit.
In the second panel, the Committee heard testimony from CME Group Executive Chairman Terry Duffy, National Futures Association (NFA) President Dan Roth and Futures Industry Association (FIA) President Walter Lukken. This was the first Congressional appearance for each since the fraud at PFGBestcame to light earlier this month, and questions focused on NFA’s role in overseeing PFGBest and how the actions of PFGBest are affecting the rest of the industry. Links to their written testimonies are below.

As Assad teeters, Israel prepares for battle to secure chemical weapons By Paul Alster
Published July 28, 2012

HAIFA, Israel –  As Syria’s regime teeters on the brink of collapse, Israeli soldiers and civilians alike are preparing for possible military action to make sure Bashar al-Assad’s chemical weapons don’t fall into the hands of terrorist groups.
Sources close to the Israel Defense Force told FoxNews.com soldiers have been put on standby and are ready to move, while civilian demand for gas masks has jumped 66 percent over the last few weeks from 2,200 to 3,700 per day. The fears center around the prospect of Hezbollah getting Syrian chemical weapons as the Assad regime shows imminent signs of collapse.
“Israel…will not hold back and will respond decisively if this happens,” Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said.
“Israel…will not hold back and will respond decisively if this happens.”
- Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman
Hezbollah, (the Islamic militant group based in south Lebanon, supported by both Syria and Iran), who has long called for the destruction of Israel, is the prime candidate to take possession of the armaments. Speculation is mounting about when and how Israel will deal with the prospect of chemical weapons being spirited away during the chaos of Assad’s likely fall.
“It appears the IDF may seek to eliminate Syria’s ability to transport the weapons to proxy forces but not to eliminate the actual weapons themselves by striking at storage facilities," Idan Kweller, political correspondent for Israel Army Radio, told FoxNews.com. "Israel’s main interest is to ensure the weapons are not passed on to the likes of Hezbollah in south Lebanon.”

NYC’s Department of Environmental Protection: Drink the (Yellow) Water

New York City’s department of environmental protection tells residents of New York not to worry when their water is yellow or brown. According to the agency, this is merely an “aesthetic problem.” The city assures that “discolored water is safe to drink, but residents who are experiencing discolored water coming from the faucet should let the sediment settle before drinking.”

The Matrix of Power

by Hugo Salinas Price, Plata.com:
The disappearance of knowledge from human consciousness is a rare phenomenon, but there are recorded instances of knowledge which has evaporated. As a curious example, Pancirollus, writing in the 16th Century mentions that, among many other cases of lost technology, in the time of the Roman Empire a man who had invented flexible glass was presented to Emperor Tiberius. Tiberius condemned the poor man to death and ordered the destruction of all his products, considering that such an invention was detrimental to society.
A striking case of general human amnesia is that of Aristarchus of Samos (born 310 B.C.) who was the first man to declare that the Sun is the center of the solar system, and that the Earth and all the other planets revolve around the Sun; he also arranged the Earth and planets in the correct order of their distance from the Sun. This knowledge was fairly soon forgotten and only rediscovered by Copernicus – 1800 years later!
Whether the Sun is the center of the solar system or whether it revolves around the Earth, as was thought to be the case up to the time of Copernicus, is really of little consequence to human life, which goes on normally whatever we wish to think about the Universe.

DHS Prepares for Civil Unrest as Destruction of 2nd Amendment Looms

by Susanne Posel, Activist Post
Surveillance drones have a new mission. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) they will be used for “public safety”. Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the DHS, told a House Committee meeting on Homeland Security that the more than 30,000 drones that will be deployed into American skies are just arbitrarily watching out for US citizens.
Napolitano stated:
“With respect to Science and Technology, that directorate, we do have a funded project, I think it’s in California, looking at drones that could be utilized to give us situational awareness in a large public safety [matter] or disaster, such as a forest fire, and how they could give us better information.”
Secretly, DHS have been taking bids from contractors who can install “aerial remote sensing,” which uses light detection and ranging (LIDAR) that would be part of the drone missions within domestic US territory.
“DHS believes these airborne images are essential for homeland defense missions, such as planning for National Special Security Events (Super Bowls or a national political conventions come to mind); enhancing border, port and airport security; as well as performing critical infrastructure inventories and assessments” and has spent over $50 million to employ contractors, as well as processors for images and dissemination throughout the DHS.

Remedies for ‘Stuck in mud’ U.S. economy will drive gold much higher

by Jeffrey Nichols, MineWeb.com
With the U.S. economy ‘stuck in the mud’ or even likely to move into downright recession, Fed likely to implement more easing, but how much and when will dictate gold price path.
Disappointing news for the U.S. economy is good news for gold investors. Recent economic data show an economy that is “stuck in the mud,” to quote Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. And, in response to signs of a slowing economy, the U.S. central bank is, sooner or later, likely to embark on another round of monetary easing.
In fact, the recent gold-price rally that took the yellow metal back over the psychologically important $1,600 an ounce level reflects rising market expectations that the Fed will announce further economic stimulus following the July 31-August 1 Federal Open Market Committee policy-setting meeting.
Aggressive action by the Fed – in the form of another round of quantitative easing (QE3) or a reduction in the interest rate paid to banks on reserves deposited with the central bank – could give gold another quick boost and trigger the resumption of a durable bull-market advance.

Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid… The DHS Presents: ‘RUN. HIDE. FIGHT. Surviving an Active Shooter Event’

[Ed. Note: Mass shootings are statistical anomalies, but that fact won't stop the DHS from making a ridiculous video about how to survive one. The real goal of this propaganda? Keeping you afraid and justifying the ever expanding police state grid.]
from Federal News Radio:

After last week’s shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., the city of Houston has released a how-to video on surviving a shooter event.
The video was created with funds from the Homeland Security Department.
“I can’t imagine the horror and grief. If it is at all possible for any good to come out of it, perhaps it can be letting people know the options to consider if it happens again,” said Mayor Annise Parker in a statement.
Titled “Run, Hide, Fight,” the video depicts a fictional shooting incident at an office building.
“It may feel like just another day at the office, but occasionally life feels more like an action movie than reality,” says a narrator.

“Progressive” War Propaganda: Deception with a Human Face

from Global Research:
Is the Western “progressive” alternative media being duped by classic war propaganda cloaked in a humanitarian narrative or is it trying to lure the public into supporting military intervention?
Several Global Research authors have questioned the focus of high profile alternative news outlets, which have supported the so-called Arab Spring revolutionaries in Libya and Syria.
Throughout history “left-wing” pundits have been recruited by war propagandists to galvanize “progressive public opinion” in favour of a humanitarian “Responsibility to Protect” military intervention.
Even though this deceitful technique has been used from time immemorial, it still works remarkably well today.
With mainstream war mongering and the absence of a real Western antiwar movement, war propaganda is now storming on all fronts and facing hardly any resistance.
Here is a list of recent articles published by Global Research on this topic.

Barack Obama, Changeling

by By Jeffrey St. Clair and Joshua Frank, AK Press , Truth-Out:
Barack Obama was in Brasilia on March 19, 2011, when he announced with limited fanfare the latest war of his young presidency. The bombing of Libya had begun with a hail of cruise missile attacks and air strikes. It was something of an impromptu intervention, orchestrated largely by Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice and the diva of vengeance Samantha Power, always hot for a saturation bombing in the name of human rights.
Obama soon upped the ante by suggesting that it was time for Qaddafi to go. The Empire had run out of patience with the mercurial colonel. The vague aims of the Libyan war had moved ominously from enforcing “a no-fly zone” to seeking regime change. Bombing raids soon targeted Qaddafi and his family. Coming in the wake of the extra-judicial assassination of Osama Bin Laden in a blood-spattered home invasion, Qaddafi rightly feared Obama wanted his body in a bag, too. (In the end, Qaddafi’s butchered body was put on public display in a Benghazi meat locker.)
Absent mass protests against the impending destruction of Tripoli, it fell to Congress to take some tentative steps to challenge the latest unauthorized and unprovoked war. At an earlier time in the history of the Republic, Obama’s arrogant defiance of Congress and the War Powers Act of 1973 might have provoked a constitutional crisis. But these are duller and more attenuated days, where such vital matters have been rendered down into a kind of hollow political theater. All the players duly act their parts, but everyone, even the cable news audience, realizes that it is just for show. The wars will proceed. The Congress will fund them. The people will have no say in the matter. As Oscar Wilde quipped: “All the world’s a stage, badly cast.”

Austerity, Adjustment, and Social Genocide: Political Language and the European Debt Crisis

by Andrew Gavin Marshal, Andrew Gavin Marshall.com:
Political language… is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.
- George Orwell, “Politics and the English Language,” 1946
Political language functions through euphemism, by employing soft-sounding or simply meaningless words to describe otherwise monstrous and vicious policies and objectives. In the European debt crisis, political language employed by politicians, economists, technocrats and bankers is designed to make policies which create poverty and exploitation appear to be logical and reasonable. The language employed includes the words and phrases: fiscal austerity/consolidation, structural adjustment/reform, labour flexibility, competitiveness, and growth. To understand political language, one must translate it. This requires four steps: first, you look at the rhetoric itself as inherently meaningless; second, you examine the policies that are taken; third, you look at the effects of the policies. Finally, if the effects do not match the rhetoric, yet the same policies are pursued time and time again, one must translate the effects as the true meaning of the rhetoric. Thus, the rhetoric has meaning, but not at face value.
The debt crisis followed the 2007-2009 financial crisis, erupting first with Greece, then Ireland, Portugal, Italy and Spain, and threatens even to spread elsewhere. Of those mentioned, only Italy has not received a bailout. Though whether “bailed out” or not, Europe’s people are being forced to undergo “austerity measures,” a political-economic euphemism for cutting social spending, welfare, social services, public sector jobs, and increased taxes. The aim, they are told, is to get their “fiscal house in order.” The people protest, and go out into the streets. The state responds by meeting the people with riot police, batons, tear gas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets. This is called “restoring order.”

No Kidding: The Most Incoherent Tom Friedman Column Ever

by Matt Taibbi, Rolling Stone:
I realize this is not a statement anyone can make lightly, but: this morning’s column by Thomas Friedman, “Syria is Iraq,” is the single most incoherent thing he has ever written. It’s… well, breathtaking is the only word.
Others, like Glenn Greenwald, have already pointed out the column’s most obvious contradictions. But for those who missed it, here are two passages that were written, not as a joke, by the same human being in the same opinion column. Start with passage #1:
And, for me, the lesson of Iraq is quite simple: You can’t go from Saddam to Switzerland without getting stuck in Hobbes — a war of all against all — unless you have a well-armed external midwife, whom everyone on the ground both fears and trusts to manage the transition. In Iraq, that was America.
Got that? Here’s the second passage:
Because of both U.S. incompetence and the nature of Iraq, this U.S. intervention triggered a civil war in which all the parties in Iraq – Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds – tested the new balance of power, inflicting enormous casualties on each other and leading, tragically, to ethnic cleansing that rearranged the country into more homogeneous blocks of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.

Billboard Compares Obama to Suspected Shooter Holmes

by Kurt Nimmo, Info Wars:
An Idaho news station wants to know if this billboard goes too far.
“A Caldwell billboard is raising questions in the Treasure Valley as it compares President Obama to accused Colorado killer, James Holmes,” reports KBOI, a television station in Boise.
“The billboard on Franklin Road [in Caldwell, Idaho] equates the actions of the president’s foreign policies to the acts of Holmes, who’s suspected of killing 12 people in the theater shooting.”
James Holmes allegedly killed 12 people, while Obama is responsible for the murder of thousands in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and other nations targeted in the global elite’s GWOT, or global war on terror.
Presidents, however, are never equated to mass murderers by the establishment or its corporate media. War crimes perpetuated by the state are invariably papered over by intellectuals and the establishment media and characterized as noble efforts to gift backward peoples with democracy or practice humanitarianism in response to thugs and dictators preying on the innocent.

Foreign Troops to Confiscate American Guns Under UN Treaty

by Aaron Dykes, Prison Planet:
“Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order … tomorrow they will be grateful.” -Attributed to Henry Kissinger during the 1991 Bilderberg meeting
For those who’ve been wondering how the domestic gun grabbers or the United Nations think they’re going to get away with gun control here at home, one need look no further than Article 15 of the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty.
Many American troops are patriots who understand their oaths to uphold the Constitution, so they can’t be counted upon to confiscate guns. But foreign troops are another story.
Article 15 of the UN Arms Trade Treaty, if ratified, provides for foreign “assistance to implement the Treaty,” and mandates that nations who can provide requested support must do so if requested by member nations. That includes legal, financial, technical as well as “material” assistance to enforce a treaty that declares “recreational, cultural, historical and sporting activities” to be the “exclusively” recognized reasons for lawful private ownership, and which further recognizes the “inherent rights” of the State (i.e. nations under the treaty) to self-defense, but makes no mention of the rights of the individual.

Good Humor: Company Selling Zombie Preparedness Kit For $24,000

by Peter V. Milo, CBS Atlanta:
Preparing for a zombie apocalypse does pay off, but it’s hard work. Although battling the hordes of eBay bidders and gathering everything piecemeal could be one preferred method, an Illinois-based company has created an easier way.
Optics Planet created a one-stop solution for zombie battlers everywhere called Z.E.R.O.
Z.E.R.O., short for Zombie Extermination, Research and Operations, is a kit that contains everything someone would need to keep alive in the end times. Initially priced at $31,375, the kit has been discounted to $23,999 with delivery available to the customer’s home or armed complex.

REALITY CHECK: US Sees Israel as Spy Threat

from AP:
The CIA station chief opened the locked box containing the sensitive equipment he used from his home in Tel Aviv, Israel, to communicate with CIA headquarters in Virginia, only to find that someone had tampered with it. He sent word to his superiors about the break-in.
The incident, described by three former senior U.S. intelligence officials, might have been dismissed as just another cloak-and-dagger incident in the world of international espionage, except that the same thing had happened to the previous station chief in Israel.
It was a not-so-subtle reminder that, even in a country friendly to the United States, the CIA was itself being watched.
In a separate episode, according to another two former U.S. officials, a CIA officer in Israel came home to find the food in the refrigerator had been rearranged. In all the cases, the U.S. government believes Israel’s security services were responsible.

DHS Prepares for Civil Unrest as Obama Poised to Destroy 2nd Amendment

The preparations that DHS and FPS are making for civil unrest may be tied to Article 15 of the UN Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). This part allows foreign troops (preferably NATO forces) to offer assistance in implementing the ATT. As the ATT does not specify an adherence to the 2nd Amendment, but rather make vague definitions of who can own a gun, what type of gun and for what purpose, the Constitutional rights we take for granted now will be stripped from us once the ATT is signed.

US Denies UN Arms Trade Treaty in Favor of Providing Weapons to Insurgents

The stance of the US government, in rejecting signature of the ATT over the trafficking of illicit arms directs the purpose of the CIA and Obama administration’s involvement in arming terrorist groups in order to facilitate foreign policy objectives in the Middle East with regard to the current situation in Syria and ultimately Iran.
