A man leads San Bernardino, CA police on a two hour, highspeed horse chase before being tased and beaten by officers who were attempting to arrest him for identity theft and police in Cottonwood, AZ end up in a fatal melee with a family Christian band (who officers say were immune to pepper spray, stun guns, and batons) living out of their car in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Gold-Backed SDR "Is Quite Likely To Happen", LSE's Lord Desai Warns

As many are increasingly coming to terms with the 'obvious failure of fiat currency', the inevitavble question arises "what next?" Earlier this year, we discussed the possibility of a Chinese- or Russian-currency backed by gold, amid the increasing calls (domestically and abroad) for an end to USD Reserve hegemony; but this weekend, as Bloomberg reports, Lord Meghnad Desai, chairman of The Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum, stated that IMF Special Drawing Rights (SDR) should contain some gold to help stabilize the currency.

Bundesbank Warns German Banks To Expect At Least 50% Losses On Austrian "Black Swan"

In a critical disclosure this past Friday which quietly flew under everyone's radar, the Bundesbank director responsible for bank supervision, Andreas Dombret, who is also a member of the board of the European Central Bank’s Single Supervisory Mechanism told Bloomberg in an interview in Johannesburg that "German banks should expect to lose at least half of their investments in bonds of Austrian bad bank Heta Asset Resolution AG and make the appropriate provisions... I think this situation has to be taken seriously by the German banks... if I were to put a number on this I would say it should be a minimum of a 50 percent provision for potential losses."

"Contained?" Robot Dies 3 Hours After Entering Fukushima Reactor

We are sure this is nothing to worry about... and Japanese officials will re-iterate that everything is on track but when a snake-like robot sent to inspect a reactor containment vessel at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant dies three hours into the operation, one might wonder just how "contained" the radiation situations really is.

How BATS Will "Improve" The Market For Thinly Traded Stocks: Stop Trading Them

As Nanex's Eric Hunsader pointed out, while the well-paid HFT-lobbyists proclaim their rigging clients "knit together liquidity from all markets," it appears BATS' new CEO (since the lying old one left) disagrees. The exchange that caters significantly to the front-running HFTs believes it knows how to improve the market for thinly traded stocks... it will stop handling them.

Renminbi-Rising: American Leadership In A Multipolar World

Giving up the spotlight is never easy. The United States, like many aging celebrities, is struggling to share the stage with new faces, especially China. The upcoming meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank – two institutions dominated by the US and its Western allies – provide an ideal opportunity to change that. The US must come to terms with the reality that the world has changed. The longer the US remains in a state of denial, the more damage it will do to its interests and its global influence, which remains substantial, if more constrained than before.

ISIS Releases 11 Minute Video Promising Another "Sept.11" Attack

Is Inequality A Bad Thing?

Whether today’s most feted “intellectual leaders” and policy makers are correctly diagnosing problems or misdiagnosing them, their proposals are never anything but viciously statist to paraphrase Hans-Hermann Hoppe. They seemingly don’t realize that economic freedom is the sine qua non for personal freedom. One simply cannot have the latter without the former. None of them seem to believe that people can be trusted to be in charge of their own affairs. The debate over the “inequality problem” is an excellent case in point. It isn’t as if the knowledge required to understand the problem weren’t readily available. However, most of these people were educated in statist institutions, and have rarely been exposed to any non-statist ideological viewpoints. The possibilities offered by solutions that do not involve the State in every nook and cranny of the economy and our daily lives don’t even occur to them. And of course, the best social engineering plans are always their personal ones.

UK Housing Bubble Bursts: Sales Of Luxury Homes Crash By 80% As "Waves Of Wealthy People Are Leaving"

The problem with the relentless scramble into London real-estate is that it was almost entirely driven by the high end, which as we have reported tirelessly over the past 4 years, has become - alongside the US ultra luxury real estate market - the new "Swiss bank account": a mostly anonymous place (with anonymous LLCs and Corps buying on behalf of uber-rich foreign oligarchs) where tax evaders can park their cash, with the NAR's, and the government's, blessing. And now, the party is over. As the FT reports, "sales of homes worth more than £2m have dropped by 80 per cent in the past year."... "It is like the 1970s again, when waves of wealthy people left Britain and it was a disaster.

China Cites "Insufficient Censorship" In Threat To Shut Down Sina Weibo

Beijing has reportedly threatened to shut down Sina Weibo which China’s internet czar claims is disseminating false information, providing a platform for terrorists, questioning the “facts,” not exercising enough censorship, and, much like the townsfolk of colonial era Salem, “propagating heresy”.

7 Years Later The "Very Serious People" Finally Ask: Was QE Worth It?

"The policy actions that cause financial repression entail a number of unintended consequences. These include potential asset price bubbles, convergence in asset allocation strategies of otherwise heterogeneous financial market participants and an increase in economic inequality. With regards to the latter, the impact of foregone interest income for households and long-term investors is substantial. At the same time, the equity rally has predominantly benefited society’s wealthiest." The hit to US savers: nearly a half trillion.

Billionaires Scramble For Immortality (Literally)

Money can't buy me love... happiness... or class; but, as The Washington Post reports, the billionaire chase for the fountain of youth may just mean that money can buy immortality. For example, "death has never made any sense to me," stated Oracle founder Larry Ellison who has donated more than $430 million to anti-aging research and has proclaimed his wish to live forever. And doctors seem to be a step closer to performing the ultimate breakthrough surgery in anti-aging (nicknamed HEAVEN): transplanting a human head onto another body.

Days Of Crony Capitalist Plunder - The Deplorable Truth About GE Capital

GE’s announcement that its getting out of the finance business should be a reminder of how crony capitalism is corrupting and debilitating the American economy. The ostensible reason the company is unceremoniously dumping its 25-year long build-up of the GE Capital mega-bank is that it doesn’t want to be regulated by Washington as a systematically important financial institution under Dodd-Frank. Oh, and that its core industrial businesses have better prospects. We will see soon enough about its oilfield equipment and wind turbine business, or indeed all of its capital goods oriented businesses in a radically deflationary world drowning in excess capacity. But at least you can say good riddance to GE Capital because it was based on a phony business model that was actually a menace to free market capitalism. Its deplorable raid on the public purse during the Lehman crisis had already demonstrated that in spades.

Greek Negotiator "Shocks" Eurozone Officials, Behaves Like "Taxi Driver": Hope Of Greek Deal "Blown"

The mood between Greece's leftist government and its euro zone partners, especially Germany, has deteriorated in the last few weeks, with personal recriminations flying between ministers and calls from Athens for Berlin to pay war reparations. The paper said at last week's meeting the Greek representative just asked where the money was "like a taxi driver", according to sources, and insisted his country would soon be bankrupt. The euro zone sources told the paper that Greece's creditors do not believe this is the case and that it would be a domestic political issue if Athens is unable to fully pay salaries and pensions.

Jailed Bahraini Human Rights Activist Writes Open Letter to Obama from Prison

by Michael Krieger, Liberty Blitzkrieg:

There is no region in the world in which the U.S. government’s blatant disregard for human rights, and its shameless foreign policy hypocrisy, is more fully on display than the Middle East. I have spent countless hours writing about this topic (see links at the end), with Saudi Arabia being the focal point of my critique for obvious reasons. Nevertheless, Bahrain has its own litany of human rights abuses, for which Nabeel Rajab has in many ways become the official and unofficial spokesperson.
Bahrain’s abuses have been mentioned here before, although not nearly as much as they warrant; probably because it is really just a colony of Saudi Arabia and the U.S., and I have focused criticism on them instead. That said, before reading on, I’d go back and check out the 2012 article: Meet Amber Lyon: Former Reporter Exposes Massive Censorship at CNN.

State Allows Text Records from 88K Government Phones to be Wiped Daily

by Mikael Thalen, InfoWars:
The state of Washington is failing to store backups of text messages from 88,000 government phones that are being wiped on a daily basis, a direct violation of state records retention laws. The shocking discovery began last November after Fife City Attorney Loren Combs requested four years worth of text messages from a former city manager.
According to The News Tribune’s Sean Robinson, who broke the story Saturday, Combs was told to get a subpoena by Verizon, one of several phone providers to the state, after the city deferred his request to the telecom.
“I was dumbfounded in this case,” Combs told The Tribune. “First that they wouldn’t give it to us without having to file a lawsuit to get our own records.”

Mainstream media’s long history of hysterical hoaxes: California wine arsenic is just the latest

by J. D. Heyes, Natural News:
Be it sensationalism, the need to satisfy advertisers or because editors and reporters merely have an ideological or political motive, today’s mainstream media can always be counted on to create, perpetuate and even expand “stories” that turn out to be fabrications, hoaxes or outright lies.
In recent weeks, for example, a number of news outlets — USA Today, the New York Daily News, CBS This Morning, Fox Business and others — ran with a “scare story” regarding a lawsuit which claimed that California wines were contaminated with dangerous levels of arsenic.
In this video report by Natural News editor Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, the suit claimed that the wine industry in the state had cut safety corners and as such inadvertently allowed “dangerously high levels of arsenic” to seep into various wines.

The U.S. Congress Is “Out to Lunch” About Vaccine Science—Here’s Proof

by Catherine J. Frompovich, Activist Post:
If ever there were a body of numbskulls taking in the “cool aid” of corporate largess, lobbyists and consensus science, the U.S. Congress, apparently, fits that bill when it comes to the hard-core facts regarding toxic ingredients in vaccines along with the so-called ‘science of vaccines’ and the vested-interest roles they have played in modern life.
Nothing expresses that more than the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 (42 U.S.C. §§ 300aa-1 to 300aa-34), which has become more of a nightmare, especially for anyone who’s been damaged by vaccines. Congress apparently went ‘off the rails’ on that one; never has bothered to investigate all the damage vaccines are causing—see the VAERS reporting system—and now, the current members of the U.S. House of Representatives issued a House Resolution—H.Res.117—that readers need to know about.

Lerner Email Warned IRS Employees of Emails That ‘Can Be Seen By Congress’

by Brittany M. Hughes, CNSnews:
Lois Lerner, former director of the Exempt Organizations Unit at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), warned other IRS officials that lower-level employees “are not as sensitive as we are to the fact that anything we write can be public–or at least be seen by Congress,” according to documents obtained by Judicial Watch and released on Thursday. In the latest batch of documents the IRS released to Judicial Watch under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which the agency heavily redacted before handing over, Lerner proposed training to help IRS employees “understand the pitfalls” of discussing “specific Congress people, practitioners and political parties” in emails that could be “seen by Congress” or the public.
“We are all a bit concerned about the mention of specific Congress people, practitioners and political parties. Our filed folks are not as sensitive as we are to the fact that anything we write can be public–or at least be seen by Congress,” Lerner wrote in an email to Holly Paz, former director of the IRS Office of Rulings and Agreements, on Feb. 16, 2012.

Securing Your Assets When Financial Privacy Is Dead

from The Daily Bell:
Daily Bell: Give us some concrete examples of infringements on privacy that are not directed at criminals but instead target law-abiding citizens.
Nick Giambruno: There are many examples, but the most poignant is the metastasizing global War on Cash, which is part and parcel of the assault on financial privacy. It’s no secret that governments around the world hate cash, as cash transactions are harder for them to track and control. That’s why we’ve seen increasingly restrictive measures in countries around the world. In just the last few years …
  • Italy made cash transactions over 1,000 euros illegal
  • Switzerland has proposed banning cash payments in excess of 100,000 francs
  • Russia banned cash transactions over $10,000
  • Spain banned cash transactions over 2,500 euros
  • Mexico made cash payments of more than 200,000 pesos illegal, and
  • Uruguay banned cash transactions over $5,000.
And most recently, France made cash transactions over €1,000 illegal, down from the previous limit of €3,000. Once the French people have gotten used to the €1,000 rule, expect the limit to be lowered again and again until the government can document the purchase and sale of every baguette. Even if they don’t lower the nominal official cash limit that the bureaucrats have deemed illegal, the constantly depreciating nature of fiat currencies will do the same thing.

US Farmers Hemorrhaging Cash Due to GM Crop Contamination

by Christina Sarich, Natural Society:
If you’re a farmer who wants to grow any crops that aren’t owned by the biotech industry, you had better be ready to burn some money. At least this is what organic farmers are saying, who are trying to grow organic crops but can’t due to pollen drift and cross-pollination. That’s right: GMO crops are contaminating the organic crops we’re fighting so hard to keep.
The news is out that demand for organic food is one the rise – it’s expected to be a $35 million dollar industry soon, and keep exploding from there. The challenge that organic farmers face; however, and one that the US FDA refuses to address, is that even in the highly subsidized markets of corn and soy growing, Big Biotech has the upper hand.

“Manufacturing Dissent”: The Anti-globalization Movement is Funded by the Corporate Elites

by Prof Michel Chossudovsky, Global Research:
Everything the [Ford] Foundation did could be regarded as “making the World safe for capitalism”, reducing social tensions by helping to comfort the afflicted, provide safety valves for the angry, and improve the functioning of government (McGeorge Bundy, National Security Advisor to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson (1961-1966), President of the Ford Foundation, (1966-1979))
“By providing the funding and the policy framework to many concerned and dedicated people working within the non-profit sector, the ruling class is able to co-opt leadership from grassroots communities, … and is able to make the funding, accounting, and evaluation components of the work so time consuming and onerous that social justice work is virtually impossible under these conditions” (Paul Kivel, You Call this Democracy, Who Benefits, Who Pays and Who Really Decides, 2004, p. 122 )

Street Combat – This Ain’t No Game! Pt 3

from Survival Blog:
HAND-TO-HAND
With a few exceptions, it takes years and years of training to become proficient at defending yourself with nothing but your bare hands and feet. The “average” person on the street isn’t prepared to undertake this sort of lengthy and time-consuming training process. So, what are the options?
I’ve been involved in the martial arts for close to 30 years, now. If there are any shortcuts or secrets, I sure haven’t discovered them. I’m continually amazed at the number of people who come to me for self-defense training with the same question: “How long will it take for me to get my Black Belt?” I wish I had a dollar for every person that asked me that question. I’d be sitting on Easy Street.

Global nuclear industry experiencing a “renaissance” as radioactive waste fills the Pacific Ocean

by David Gutierrez, Natural News:
Even as radioactive waste from the Fukushima nuclear disaster continues to pour into the Pacific Ocean, the world’s nuclear industry is undergoing a different kind of explosion.
“Right now, the nuclear renaissance is happening, and it’s happening in East Asia,” said Geoffrey Rothwell, an economist at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Despite the Fukushima disaster, many countries are building newer, more massive nuclear reactors. According to the International Energy Agency, there are already 400 gigawatts of nuclear energy being generated worldwide, with plans underway to generate 72 gigawatts more. China alone wants to generate 58 gigawatts of nuclear energy within the next 10 years.
