Wikileaks Reveals IMF Plan To "Cause A Credit Event In Greece And Destabilize Europe"

In a leaked transcript, IMF staffers are caught on tape suggesting that a threat of an imminent financial catastrophe was needed to force other players into accepting its measures such as cutting Greek pensions and working conditions, or as Bloomberg puts it, "considering a plan to cause a credit event in Greece and destabilize Europe."

Canada Goes Full-Krugman, Jacks Up Borrowing And Spending, Confirms Gold Sale

In his youth, Morneau completed graduate studies at the London School of Economics and INSEAD in France, where, as Talleyrand would have said: “He learned nothing and forgot nothing.” The result, as might be expected, was a Canadian budget that was pure Keynes/ Krugman, with a bit of Larry Summers thrown in.

Sanders Supporters Just Filed A Lawsuit Against Bill Clinton For Election Fraud

from True Activist:

Supporters of Bernie Sanders in Massachusetts have officially filed a lawsuit against Bill Clinton for engaging in illegal activities on the day of the Massachusetts primary to help his wife win the state.
A group called MA Sanders Voters and Volunteers Disenfranchised by Bill Clinton filed the lawsuit after gathering evidence against the former president to use in their case, alleging that he illegally campaigned at polling stations, sometimes even going inside.
The MA Secretary of State Galvin was seen posing with Clinton and chatting with him at one event and defended him by saying his presence was totally legal because he wasn’t saying “vote for Hillary” or anything of the sort.

Job Cuts Pile up

from Wolf Street:

And it’s reaching far beyond energy.

Turning points in the vast US labor market rarely come with a big drumroll that no one can miss. Instead, they wedge themselves into the rosy scenario bit by bit, here and there, posing contradictions where none are expected. And today, we got one of those contradictions: unemployment claims v. job-cut announcements.
The number of people who applied for unemployment insurance during the week of March 20 to 26 rose by 11,000 to 276,000, the Labor Departmentreported today. While up, these initial claims are still near the low of 253,000 established on March 5, which had been the lowest level since the late 1960s!

State Department Suspends Probe Of "Top Secret" Clinton Emails

While the media goes into a frenzy every time someone is punched or maced at a Trump rally, or frankly any time Trump says anything out of place (and lately he has has had more than his fair share of supply), what according to many is the real scandal, is quietly being doused with the media obligingly looking the other way. Moments ago, AP reported that the State Department has suspended its internal review into whether former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or her top aides mishandled emails containing information now deemed "top secret."

Documented Link Between Turkey And ISIS

from The Sleuth Journal:

Previous articles discussed Erdogan’s support for ISIS, giving its fighters safe haven on Turkish territory, allowing them free cross-border passage into Syria and return, providing them arms and other material support, selling their stolen oil.
An RT International documentary film crew discovered damning evidence found by Kurdish YPG fighters in northern Syria of Turkey’s involvement with ISIS in transporting, refining and selling stolen Syrian oil – Erdogan and other regime officials profiting hugely, separate evidence revealing it.
Turkey claiming it’s combating ISIS, not supporting it, is contradicted by hard evidence proving otherwise.

Top 20 Modern Doublespeak Terms To Be Aware Of

from Zen Gardner:

Doublespeak
is a language that is alive and well in our world today. Doublespeak can refer to terms that are euphemisms (mild expressions designed to hide harsher or more direct ones), deliberately ambiguous (expressions designed to hide the truth) or actualinversions (outright lies which state the opposite of the truth). Although he never used the term doublespeak in his book 1984, many associate doublespeak with George Orwell. After all, it was Orwell who famously wrote that the motto of the totalitarian ruling party in 1984 was “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength” – an example of an inversion. Orwell did however use the term newspeak to refer to a new kind of language which drastically reduced the scope of available words and terms, so as to concurrently reduce the scope of possible free thought among the ruled population.

Exposed - How Two Janet Yellen Phone Calls Saved The World

Thanks to the just released February diary of Fed chief Yellen, we now know exactly when she called Bank of England Governor (and former Goldman Sachs employee) Marc Carney and ECB President (and former Goldman Sachs employee) Mario Draghi. Can you guess when?

Trump's 1990 Playboy Interview: "We Are Being Laughed At Around The World..."

While The Donald may come across as 'shooting from the hip', it appears based on this 1990 interview with Playboy that Trump has been thinking about the decline of America, the weakness and corruption of government, and the impact of foreign (Chinese, Mexican, and Japanese) trade practices on the average joe. As he says, "I don’t want to be President. I’m one hundred percent sure. I’d change my mind only if I saw this country continue to go down the tubes."

Q1 Slams Hedgies 'Most Popular Trade' - Momo Crashes Most Since 2009

In mid-February, we warned of the looming carnage for equity market-neutral funds, and sure enough, as Bloomberg reports, one of the most popular (and successful) hedge fund trades - playing the difference between high- and low-momentum stocks - crashed by the most since 2009 in Q1. After 6 years of almost unstoppable gains, equity market-neutral funds suffered their biggest losses since 2012 - comparable to the 2007 quant crisis devastation - as weak momo stocks massively outpeformed crushing the hedgies' models.

The Next Big Problem: "Stagflation Is Starting To Show Across The Economy"

"I think stagflation is starting to show - that idea of stronger nominal growth but weaker real growth is starting to show up across the economy. It certainly is showing up with real personal consumption slowing; it's showing with slower job creation growth as the wage rate rises, and it's showing up in weaker profits as the share of labor income rises reducing profit margins for corporations."

Doug Casey Warns "We're Exiting The Eye Of The Giant Financial Hurricane"

As this unfolds, your biggest risk isn’t the crashing stock market or the crashing bond market. Your biggest problem, and also the one most people just don’t see, is political. Your government is by far the most serious threat to your money and wellbeing.

Putin Aide Details Russia’s Game Plan Against the Empire

by Harley Schlanger, SGT Report:
Sergey Glazyev is an economist, and a political activist in Russia. He is an adviser to Russian President Putin, and an early proponent of Russia’s engagement in the “Eurasian perspective,” of collaboration with China and the creation of the BRICS.
He is also known in Russian academic circles as an admirer of Lyndon LaRouche, who emphasizes that economics is not subordinate to monetary policy, but must be based on physical principles, with a focus on physical production and productivity advance, through scientific and technological innovation. Like LaRouche, he is a fierce opponent especially of British imperial geopolitics. As you will see from this interview, Glazyev shares LaRouche’s view that Obama’s war drive — from his support for terrorism to his build-up of NATO on Russia’s borders, from his “modernization” of nuclear weapons to his threats against China — comes from the accelerating collapse of the Trans-Atlantic economic and financial system.

Authorities Plan Strategic Attack of Anti-Vaccine “Myths”

from The Daily Bell:
One promising new approach is to keep track of the vaccine myths circulating in cyberspace and rebut each one as it appears. This requires tracking information from search engines and following anti-vaccination websites and parents’ forums. – Economist

The battle against anti-vaccine websites and individuals is about to intensify.
Rather than fighting on just a PR front, authorities are now planning a strategic offensive against anti-vaccine “myths” as they appear. The idea is to combat these supposed myths one by one in a concerted fashion.

Doug Casey on Making the Most of Your Personal Freedom and Financial Opportunity Around the World

by Doug Casey, International Man:
Right now, we are exiting the eye of the giant financial hurricane that we entered in 2007, and we’re going into its trailing edge.
It’s going to be much more severe, different, and longer lasting than what we saw in 2008 and 2009.
In a desperate attempt to stave off a day of financial reckoning during the 2008 financial crisis, global central banks began printing trillions of new currency units. The printing continues to this day.
It’s not just the Federal Reserve that’s printing. The Fed is just the leader of the pack. The U.S., Japan, Europe, China… all major central banks… are participating in the biggest increase in global monetary units in history.

Russia Becomes World’s Largest Gold Buyer

by Cecilia Jamasmie, Mining:
Russia’s central bank is now the world’s top gold buyer after adding 356,000 ounces of the precious metals to its reserves in February, data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) quoted by local paper Vedomosti (in Russian) shows.
According to the report, the country — which has been hoarding bullion as of late — increased its foreign reserves last week by another $5.8 billion to $387 billion. That is $19 billion more than what it had at the end of 2015, when the country’s central bank announced it would increase Russia’s gold reserves to $500 billion within the next five years.
Russia’s international reserves include securities, foreign exchange cash, IMF special drawing rights, monetary gold, and a number of other assets.

On Monday, “terrorists” attacked a major U.S. hospital.
They didn’t set off a bomb or fire a single bullet. They infected the hospital with a computer virus.
The Chicago Tribune reported on Tuesday.
Modern medicine in the Washington area reverted to 1960s-era paper systems when one of the largest hospital chains was crippled by a virus that shuttered its computers for patients and medical staff.
[T]he paralyzing attack on MedStar Health Inc., which forced records systems offline, prevented patients from booking appointments, and left staff unable to check email messages or even look up phone numbers.
MedStar operates 10 hospitals around Maryland and Washington D.C. It serves more than 4 million patients a year. Its computer systems are still down.

Iran Moves To Take Key City From ISIS In Critical Sectarian Feud

Last week, the Pentagon said the U.S. military had killed a man they identified as one of Islamic State’s top military officials. It didn’t give any further information, but Gen. Magsosi said the man, known as Abu Eman, was the top expert at the Mosul bomb lab. When Islamic State captured Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, in the summer of 2014, the university was one of the spoils. The university had a strong reputation around Iraq for its science departments, alumni say.

April "Fools" In March

It may be almost impossible to underestimate the gullibility of professional Fed watchers. At least Lucy van Pelt needed to place an actual football on the ground to fool poor Charlie Brown. But in today’s high stakes game of Federal Reserve mind reading, the Fed doesn’t even have to make a halfway convincing bluff to make the markets look foolish.

NATO: Worse Than "Obsolete" - It's A Crony Capitalist's Dream

NATO isn’t just an expensive luxury of the sort we can no longer afford – it is a tripwire that could be set off by a minor border conflict involving Moldova, the status of Kaliningrad, or – more likely – another round of hostilities in Ukraine. Would we start World War III in defense of the oligarchs of Kiev? I wouldn’t put it past them. With his plan – or, rather, inclination – to abandon the old NATO and replace it with some sort of multilateral counterterrorist operation, and his insistence that our “allies” pay up, Trump is forcing an issue onto the stage that hasn’t been seen since the days of Bob Taft.

New Law Allows Unlimited Amounts Of Secret Money Into Elections

by Justin Gardner, Activist Post:
When a divided U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Citizens United in 2010, it reshaped the political landscape by opening the floodgates to what is known as “dark money.” Unlimited amounts of secret cash can now be funneled to political candidates from entities posing as nonprofit organizations, and the public has no right to know who is buying these elected officials.
The biggest beneficiary of the Citizens United case appears to be Hillary Clinton, which is ironic considering that the subject of that case was a film critical of Clinton. She has long been a soldier for corporate interests, from propelling Wal-Mart to enormous proportions during the 1990s to advancing the interests of the military-industrial complex and Big Pharma.

The Path To The Final Crisis

We cannot be sure what shape the next crisis will take, although it seems likely that it will be yet another “deflation scare”, mainly caused by falling asset prices. However, we do know what the last crisis of the current system will look like. It will entail a crumbling of the public’s faith in fiat money and the institutions that issue and administer it.

New Research Shows Ties Between Associated Press and Nazis

by Derrick Broze, Activist Post:
A historian has published a new article revealing that the Associated Press news agency cooperated with Hitler’s Nazi regime during the 1930s, allowing the Nazi propaganda ministry to select material for publication.
Hitler’s Nazi party came to power in 1933 in Germany and quickly worked to limit and ban press that painted the party in an unfavorable light. Many national and international media outlets were forced to close after coming under attack from Nazi sympathizers. The Associated Press would be the only Western news agency open in Hitler’s Third Reich, until the U.S. officially entered the war in 1941. During that time period, the AP was the only source for information related to Hitler’s brutal genocide.
Historian Harriet Scharnberg has published an article in the academic journal Studies in Contemporary History, stating that AP was only able to maintain access by entering into a “mutually beneficial” agreement with the Nazi regime. The AP agreed to sign up to the so-called Schriftleitergesetz (editor’s law), promising not to publish any material “calculated to weaken the strength of the Reich abroad or at home.” The Guardian reported:

Here’s What People Near the Worst Gas Leak in History are Experiencing

by Christina Sarich, Natural Society:
Residents of Southern California recently experienced what the press dubbed “officially the worst gas leak in history,” but not an honest tale of how this is affecting residents can be found – unless you dig much deeper than the mainstream media.
A well blowout at the Aliso Canyon underground storage facility owned by the Southern California Gas Co. emitted close to 100,000 metric tons of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into Porter Ranch and the surrounding area early this year. Residents were evacuated from the site, but after returning home just a few months after the disaster following SoCalGas’s go-ahead, hazardous chemicals released in the spill, like benzene, are having their way with people’s health.

Ted Cruz Jokes About Murdering Trump

by Steve Watson, Infowars:
GOP candidate Ted Cruz took the ongoing rivalry between himself and Donald Trump to new levels last night by ‘joking’ that he’d be tempted to seriously injure or kill Trump if he had the chance. “I dislike Obama’s policies more. Donald is a unique individual,” Cruz replied. “If I were in my car and getting ready to reverse and saw Donald in the backup camera, I’m not confident which pedal I’d push.” Cruz added.

Verge Of Revolution: The Story You Aren't Being Told About The Brazilian Uprising

While Brazilians are angry and tired of their economic hardships, they are also incensed at the country’s history of corruption, which now includes a massive presidential scandal carried out by politicians and lobbyists during the current and previous administrations. This misconduct has given residents of all walks of life enough incentive to take their demands to the streets. Mainstream media has covered the major protests overtaking the streets of Brazil at the outset of an apparent political revolution, but few discuss the problems that have been brewing for decades in South America’s largest nation.

Who Needs Helicopters? Draghi Plans "Fool-Proof" ECB-Backed Debit Card

Yesterday’s leaks confirm the ECB’s plans will effectively give Europe’s consumer lenders access to unlimited zero-cost finance – going far further than the free money showered on them by the multiple previous TLTRO financial packages. Under the proposed scheme, European banks have the option to issue their clients a new branded European Banking Union debit card.

Why One Economist Doesn't Believe The March Jobs Number

Despite a lackluster holiday sales season and massive big box store closures, despite major 1Q hiring companies like Home Depot reporting flat hiring plans, the BLS model reports 181K payrolls added in 1Q 2016. To put that into context:Best 1Q ever; Better than the entire annual Retail payroll growth for 2014; 2/3s the level of 2015

JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank, Rothschild Yanked Into Probe Of Goldman-Backed Malaysian Slush Fund

When last we checked in on the 1MDB saga, Goldman was busy tying up a few loose ends. Tim Leissner, the banker who built the firm’s Southeast Asia operation from the ground up and the man behind a series of questionable deals that funded what would eventually become Malaysian PM Najib Razak’s personal slush fund, was essentially forced out in January, after bank investigators uncovered what they said was an unauthorized reference letter. Now, the global effort to find out how nearly three quarters of a billion dollars ended up in Najib's checking account looks set to ensnare all of the usual suspects.

Goldman Looks At The Jobs Report, Sees Three Rate Hikes In 2016

The FOMC may have cut its rate hike forecast from 4 to 2, following by an even more dovish speech by Janet Yellen, but Goldman is convinced the Fed is wrong. As a result, after looking at today's payrolls report, its chief economist Jan Hatzius said that "we ultimately think the committee will move faster than the two-hike pace implied by the latest “dot plot”, despite the dovish signals from the March meeting and Chair Yellen’s remarks this week" and that "we continue to expect the FOMC to raise rates three times in 2016." This means rate hikes during all the upcoming FOMC meetings that have a conference: June, September and December.

Where The March Jobs Were: The Minimum Wage Deluge Continues

In March the US economy added a healthy 215K jobs, beating expectations and more importantly, pushing the average hourly earnings up by 0.3% on the month. Which, however, is curious because a cursory look at the job additions in the month reveals that nearly two-third of all jobs, and the three top categories of all job additions, were once again all minimum wages jobs.

US Manufacturing Surveys Bounce Despite The Biggest Industry Job Losses In 7 Years

Following China's miraculous PMI jump back into expansion, Markit reports US Manufacturing also rose to 51.5 in March (despite the biggest drop in manufacturing jobs since 2009). As Markit details, output growth is unchanged from February’s 28-month low, and prices charged decline amid further drop in input costs. ISM Manufacturing also jumpedfrom 49.5 to 51.8 - the first 'expansion' in 7 months. Finally, we note that ISM Prices Paid exploded higher (from 38.5 to 51.5) - the biggest jump since Aug 2012.

Waiters And Bartenders Rise To Record, As Manufacturing Workers Drop Most Since 2009

On the surface, the March jobs reported was better than expected... except for manufacturing workers. As shown in the chart below, in the past month, a disturbing 29,000 manufacturing jobs were lost. This was the single biggest monthly drop in the series going back to December 2009.

"Good" News Is Bad Again? Commodity Carnage Continues Post-Payrolls

It appears Goldman clients are once again taking a bath. Having proposed that with monetary concerns temporarily sidelined, "good news should be good news for risky assets," today's better-than-expected jobs print (following China's better than expected PMIs) has sent stocks lower, bonds higher, and crack gold and oil...

Payrolls Rise 215K In March, Beat Expectations As Average Hourly Earnings, Unemployment Rise

And so the confusion remains: why did Yellen go uber dove three days ahead of a day in which the BLS reported that in March not only were 215K jobs created, more than the consensus 205K, if below last month's 245K, but in which average hourly earnings rebounded a solid 0.3%, above the 0.2% expected, and well above last month's -0.1% decline.

Your Last Minute Payrolls Preview: What Wall Street Expects (And Why It May Be Disappointed)

The number is released three days after a particularly dovish Yellen speech, which prompted many to ask "what does the Fed know" - today's payrolls report will either provide the answer, if it is a big miss, or it will add to the confusion: if payrolls are surging, why is the Fed so concerned.

China Bans April Fool's Day: It Is "Inconsistent With Core Socialist Values"

In a story that itself seemed like it may be an April fool's joke, the WSJ writes that China’s official Xinhua News Agency has issued a warning on its viewpoint commentary microblog that antics over April Fool’s Day - a tradition it was first exposed to only in the late 1970s when it gradually opened up to foreign cultural influence - are "inconsistent with core socialist values" and at odds with Chinese cultural tradition.
