Are we about to witness trillions of dollars of “paper wealth” vaporize into thin air? During the next financial crisis, a lot of “wealthy” investors are going to be in for a very rude awakening. The truth is that securities are only worth what someone else is willing to pay for them, and that is why liquidity is so important. Back on April 17th, I published an article entitled “The Global Liquidity Squeeze Has Begun“, but it didn’t get nearly as much attention as many of my other articles do. But now that the liquidity crisis is intensifying, hopefully people will start to grasp the implications of what is happening. The 76 trillion dollar global bond bubble is threatening to implode, and if it does, the amount of “paper wealth” that could potentially be lost during the months ahead is almost unimaginable.

As Markit notes, with the exceptions of the weather-related slowdown at the turn of the year and the 2013 government shutdown, June saw the weakest pace of economic growth since May 2013 as the Composite PMI slipped to 54.6 - its lowest since January 2015 (as employment tumbled and cost burdens surged the most since Oct 2013). As Markit conludes, hopes for a 3.00% growth are receding as "there has clearly been a loss of momentum in recent months."

Personal Spending Surges Most Since August 2009 As Savings Rate Tumbles

After an unchanged April, May expectations for spending were a 0.7% jump but the data blew that away, printing a 0.9% MoM jump - the biggest since August 2009 and biggest beat since Jan 2013. Personal Income only grew at 0.5% (still the highest MoM jump since March 2014) driving the savings rate down to 5.1% - the lowest since December. Before Steve Liesman and his buddies get too excited - spending was driven mainly by a 4.72% surge in spending on Energy goods & services - not exactly what the discretionary buying consumer-oriented society that is required to keep the dream alive was looking for. Spending Ex-Energy is the lowest since March 2011. Finally we note non-durable spending topped durables and this exuberant GDP-boosting spendfest (un-save-fest) provides more ammo for an earlier Fed rate hike.
Bundesbank Slams ECB's "Bridge Financing" To Greece
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 06/25/2015 - 08:23 The Bundesbank's Jens Weidmann unleashed a litany of cticisim on the Eurosystem (read the ECB) when he said that Greek banks should not continue to buy the short-term debt of their government, which is then repoed back to the ECB in exchange for precious cash. "The Eurosystem must not provide bridge financing to Greece even in anticipation of later disbursements," said Weidmann, who also sits on the European Central Bank's Governing Council, which approves such funding to Greece. "When banks without access to the markets buy debt of a sovereign which is likewise locked out of the market, taking recourse to ELA raises serious monetary financing concerns," he said in a speech to be delivered at a conference in Frankfurt.

no-renaissance manufacturing sector in the US. Bad-hair day because it
wasn’t terrible to where you wanted roll up into a fetal position and
hide under the table, but it wasn’t good either, just the kind of crummy
disappointment we’ve seen more or less for years.
And if we ever sit down and wonder why this economy “feels” so much worse than the overall economic numbers, lousy as they are, we need to look at some of this data on a per-capita basis. Because that’s what each individual really feels. If you have a bigger pie, but you slice it into more pieces, each piece might end up being smaller.

made a point about not having an opinion about all of this because — as
I have noted many times — whatever compromise or can-kick that occurred
would come down to the last minute.

Thus, I have not had much of an opinion, nor have I had any interest in putting up any dollars to speculate on an outcome. Nonetheless, I have assumed that a compromise would get worked out, and that still seems like the highest probability event. Having said that, it is not impossible that complacency, haggling, and the inertia of bureaucracies, not to mention opposing opinions, prevents something from getting done and a default takes place, which would almost certainly guarantee a collapse of the Greek banking system and all sorts of chaos.

With racial tensions at an all time high, it’s curious the corporate
media has remained virtually silent on the death of an internet blogger
suspected of brutally attacking several Asian women in Manhattan over
the past month. The body of Tyrell Shaw, 25, the black man who ran a blog called “Mr. Talented,”
was found Monday, dead from an apparent suicide. Police suspect Shaw
was responsible for several recent attacks that targeted Asian women in
the area. On his blog, Shaw indicated he intended to wage a “civil war”
on Asian women after being rejected numerous times.
An apartment landlord said he found Shaw’s body at the bottom of an elevator shaft outfitted in what appeared to be a silver space suit.
According to police, Shaw launched his first “nose game” attack on June 10 when he followed a 35-year-old woman into Chinatown and asked her “Who is the president of the United States?”” When she didn’t respond, police said, he walked away, then returned with a white plastic bag containing a hard object and hit her in the face,” reports NBC New York.
