US Invasion of Syria Begins

by Tony Cartalucci, Activist Post:
As previously warned about in June of 2015, the United States has announced that it will officially begin ground operations in Syria through the use of special forces. The Washington Post in its article, “Obama seeks to intensify operations in Syria with Special Ops troops,” would report that:
President Obama is sending a small number of Special Operations troops to northern Syria, marking the first full-time deployment of U.S. forces to the chaotic country.
The mission marks a major shift for Obama, whose determination to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has been balanced by an abiding worry that U.S. troops not be pulled too deeply into the intractable Syrian conflict.
The latest deployment will involve fewer than 50 Special Operations advisers, who will work with resistance forces battling the Islamic State in northern Syria but will not engage in direct combat, Obama administration officials said.

US On The Road To Third World

from Paul Craig Roberts:
On January 6, 2004, Senator Charles Schumer and I challenged the erroneous idea that jobs offshoring was free trade in a New York Times op-ed. Our article so astounded economists that within a few days Schumer and I were summoned to a Brookings Institution conference in Washington, DC, to explain our heresy. In the nationally televised conference, I declared that the consequence of jobs offshoring would be that the US would be a Third World country in 20 years.
That was 11 years ago, and the US is on course to descend to Third World status before the remaining nine years of my prediction have expired.
The evidence is everywhere. In September the US Bureau of the Census released its report on US household income by quintile. Every quintile, as well as the top 5%, has experienced a decline in real household income since their peaks.

The Global Test Most Will Fail: Surviving The Bust That Inevitably Follows A Boom

Booms powered by credit, new markets and speculation are followed by busts as night follows day. This creates a very difficult test for every nation-state facing the inevitable bust: how does the leadership deal with the end of the boom? ISIS Mayhem Being Fueled by Drugs, Arms – Supplied by Saudi Arabia and the CIA

from 21st Century Wire:
It’s the untold and often hidden history which underpins many of today’s proxy wars, conflicts and the horrific activities of death squads the world over.
The strategic dispensing of narcotics in the military theater and in guerrilla warfare is more common than many people realize. In many cases this is the X-factor that fuels the mayhem and terrorizes vulnerable bystanders on the ground.
Aside from the traditional problem of substance abuse by the US military and others, drugs have played a pivotal role in many recent conflicts and tend to be a feature where US military and covert intelligence are involved. Narcotic trafficking and use by military has been well-documented in US-backed wars in Vietnam and Central America, specifically with El Salvador, Nicaragua, Brazil, Columbia (to name only a few), and also with NATO’s 21st century opium boom in Afghanistan, other NATO narco wars like Yugoslavia, as well as countless CIA-linked conflict zones featuring death squads in Iraq, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Rwanda and Angola.

China's Manufacturing Misses; Nonmanufacturing Worst Since 2008 Despite Unprecedented $1 Trillion "Debt Injection"

The most anticipated economic release over the weekend was the early glimpse into China's manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors via the two key PMI surveys released by China's National Bureau of Statistics, to get a sense if the slowdown across China is stabilizing or, as some have suggested, rebounding. It did not: overnight the NBS reported that the manufacturing PMI remained unchanged in October at 49.8 missing consensus estimates of a modest rebound to 50.0, its third consecutive month in contraction territory.

Analyst Warns Of Turbulence: "Geopolitical Dislocations Could Result In Key Resource Supplies Disappearing"

Instability pervades the entire system, encompassing everything from financial markets to social safety nets. And while it is easy to ignore the seriousness of current events because stock markets remain at record highs and mainstream pundits continue to toe the recovery line, the fact is that an unexpected and seemingly minor event could well send the entire world into a tailspin.

Fed Admits "Something's Going On Here That We Maybe Don't Understand"

In a somewhat shocking admission of its own un-omnipotence, or perhaps more of a C.Y.A. moment for the inevitable mean-reversion to reality, Reuters reports that San Francisco Fed President John Williams said Friday that low neutral interest rates are a warning sign of possible changes in the U.S. economy that the central bank does not fully understand. With Japan having been there for decades, and the rest of the developed world there for 6 years, suddenly, just weeks away from what The Fed would like the market to believe is the first rate hike in almost a decade, Williams decides now it is the time to admit the central planners might be missing a factor (and carefully demands better fiscal policy).

WAR OF THE WORLDS

from The Burning Platform:
It was 77 years ago this week that Orson Welles struck terror into the hearts of Americans with his live radio broadcast of the HG Wells classic War of the Worlds. The broadcast began at 8:00 pm on Mischief Night 1938. As I was searching for anything of interest to watch the other night on the 600 cable stations available 24/7, I stumbled across a PBS program about Welles’ famous broadcast. As I watched the program, I was struck by how this episode during the last Fourth Turning and how people react to events is so similar to how people are reacting during the current Fourth Turning. History may not repeat exactly, but it certainly rhymes.

The dollar store expansion: Number of dollar stores in the US expected to exceed 30,000 in 2016.

from My Budget 360:
Wal-Mart, the mega retailer has over 5,000 stores in the United States. We tend to think of Wal-Mart as the low price leader crushing prices to their rock bottom level by cutting costs at every corner. However, there is an even lower cost option and many working class Americans are turning to these stores. Dollar stores have seen a dramatic rise in numbers thanks to the ongoing effects of the recession. There are more than 11,500 Dollar General stores in the United States (twice the amount of Wal-Mart locations). The growth in dollar stores is reflecting the cash crunch many Americans are facing. We’ve mentioned this in the past but many dollar stores have suddenly become low cost grocery stores as people struggle to get by. This is a smart strategy to tap into the ever growing number of Americans on food stamps. It is expected that by 2016 over 30,000 dollar stores will exist in the United States.

Obese Kids’ Health Improves After Just 9 Days Without Added Sugar

by Julie Fidler, Natural Society:

In the U.S., children often consume double or triple the amount the federal recommended guidelines for sugar intake, but cutting the amount of sweets that kids consume for as little as 9 days is all it takes for youngsters’ health to start improving, according to a new study from researchers at the University of California-San Francisco and Touro University.
For the study, 43 extremely obese youths, ages 9 to 18, were placed on low-sugar diets. Researchers extensively tested how their bodies changed during a little over week. The children or their parents completed a food questionnaire and were interviewed by a dietitian to develop a baseline diet which included a similar amount of protein, fat, and carbohydrates as their normal diet, but with 10 to 28% less sugar. The dietitian replaced the sugar with starch calorie-for-calorie.

Is China’s Economy Even Worse than Suspected?

by Wolf Richter, Wolf Street:
It’s always good to have a plan. So China has a new five-year plan, its 13th. And the plan is to dial down China’s formerly white-hot economy to a target of “medium-high economic growth” for the five years starting in 2016.
“The country will promote greater sophistication in its industrial sector and significantly raise the contribution of consumption to economic growth,” according to the Global Times, a tabloid under the People’s Daily, which is the official propaganda organ of the Communist Party. The goal is to double 2010 GDP and per-capita income by 2020 and create “a moderately prosperous society.”

Martin Luther Warned Christians About Appeasing Islam 500 Years Ago

by William Federer Freedom Outpost:
On Oct. 31, 1517, an Augustinian monk named Martin Luther posted 95 debate questions on the door of Wittenberg Church, which began the movement known as “the Reformation.”
In 1521, 34-year-old Martin Luther was summoned to stand trial before the most powerful man in the world, 21-year-old Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Charles V of Spain’s empire spanned nearly 2 million square miles across Europe, the Netherlands, the Far East, Philippines, North and South America, and the Caribbean.
At the Diet of Worms, Charles V initially dismissed Luther’s theses as “an argument between monks” and simply declared Martin Luther an outlaw. Martin Luther was hid by Frederick of Saxony in the Wartburg Castle, where he translated the New Testament into German.

Truth, Lies & Venezuela

by Ricardo Hausmann, Project-Syndicate:
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has a problem with me again. The government-controlled national television station recently broadcast an illegally taped private phone conversation in which I proposed a study to explore how to rescue the Venezuelan economy by leveraging the support of the international community. The government unsuccessfully edited the recording to make what was said sound nefarious, lied about the conversation’s meaning and about me, and plans to prosecute me.
This got me thinking about the eternal problem of evil. Is it entirely relative, or are there objective grounds to characterize a behavior or act as evil? Do all confrontations occur between legitimate parties – with, say, one person’s terrorist being another’s freedom fighter – or can we say that some fights really are between good and evil?

Dollar Death Will Lead to WW3 in Middle East – X22 Report Interview

from CrushTheStreet:

As The Economy & Confidence Slumps, Americans Are Hording This 'Commodity'

With the trick-or-treat-fest over, Americans will be shocked to open their credit-card statements at the end of the month and find it considerably higher than normal for this time of year. As American's consumer comfort has tumbled and economic data has plunged, it appears the 'average joe' has turned to one thing to make it all better - candy. Having soared 5.7% in September alone - the biggest jump since April 2012 - as broad CPI was unchanged, Candy prices in America have never been higher as, yet again, greed is good (especially when every part of your 'dream' is falling apart).
